Baritone Frederick Gustin began playing trombone in 5th grade in Bethesda, MD, but did not sing until 22 years ago when his wife Barbara, already a veteran singer, insisted that he come with her to a rehearsal with the Congregation Beth Torah Adult Choir in Overland Park, Kansas.

Fred discovered instantly that he loved singing, and then sang with a number of community choral groups in Kansas City including small ensemble Shireinu and the William Baker Choral Foundation Summer Singers of Kansas City, and of Lee’s Summit, with whom he first sang the deeply moving Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Opus 86. Thus began his career singing the immortal masterworks, including Mozart, Handel, Hayden, Faure and others, most recently Carl
Orff’s great Carmina Burana.

Fred, a retired engineer, resides in Rancho Mirage with his wife of 46 years, Soprano Barbara Brill Gustin, and currently sings in the Desert Outreach Synagogue Choir and the St. John’s Festival Singers. He is honored to be included in Coachella Valley Classical Voices, and looks forward to working with its many highly accomplished singers.
