Ric Caleb Durity, tenor, began his vocal musical journey at age 5, with his musician grandfather accompanying him, and as a soprano soloist for seven years in the local church choir. Just before his voice changed, Ric sang soprano voice with the boys’ choir at the Washington National Cathedral while also serving as an acolyte there. Once his voice changed, Mr. Durity became an instrumental musician and consummate “band nerd” playing first trumpet through his high school and college years. While at college and with the help of his voice teacher, Ric once again found his tenor voice and appeared in performances of West Side Story and with the college choir. Following completion of his graduate studies, Mr. Durity joined the Rochester Oratorio Society, the leading choral/orchestral ensemble in New York’s Finger Lakes region, where he developed an even greater appreciation for choral music and had the privilege of performing under the direction of Maestro David Zinman.

A change in geography allowed Ric the opportunity to sing as a first tenor with the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus for several years. Mr. Durity enjoys singing music from Broadway, classical, sacred, pop, bluegrass, and country western traditions. Ric is pleased to have resumed his vocal training with voice teacher, Doug Nagel, and is very excited through Coachella Valley Classical Voices, to rediscover the joy of singing for an audience other than his husband of thirty-four years, Robert Phillips.
